Bafana share the spoils with Botswana in the COSAFA Cup

On 29 June 2024, Bafana Bafana played to another draw in the COSAFA Cup group stage, sharing points with Botswana at Isaac Wolfson Stadium in Gqeberha. This Group A fixture ended goalless, following their earlier 1-1 draw against Mozambique. Coach Helman Mkhalele's team missed several opportunities to secure a win, mirroring their previous match where they struggled to capitalize on chances against a resilient Botswana side.

Mkhalele expressed disappointment with his team's performance, emphasizing their lack of control in the attacking third. He noted deficiencies in confidence and support for key players like Thabang Sibanyoni, who dominated aerial battles but lacked effective backing. Despite creating half chances, Bafana Bafana failed to convert them with the required aggression and speed.

Botswana's coach, Didier da Rosa, praised his players' disciplined performance despite the stalemate, highlighting their adherence to the game plan. He was pleased with their defensive solidity, having also secured a goalless draw against Eswatini earlier in the tournament.

Looking ahead, Mkhalele and his team now prepare to face Eswatini in their final Group A encounter at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Tuesday at 3pm.
